I’m one of the lucky ones. I was a little late to the party, so in my own personal world Brand New is only four years old. That doesn’t change the fact that it feels like I’ve been waiting a lifetime for this. I was lucky enough to see them at Riot Fest ’16, where my love was cemented by a stellar performance and a crowd of crying women that won’t soon be forgotten.
So now before I go too far down memory lane, here’s my take on Science Fiction. I listened to it front and back while driving into a orange melting sunset and it couldn’t be more appropriate. The album is oozing with that classic Brand New melancholy. I never thought they’d be able to fill in creeper skits and intros than the ones on Daisy, but they immediately out did themselves with Lit Me Up. The tracks that really hit for me were Waste and Out of Mana. With that being said it’s a front to backer.
Look I’m no expert, but this is a solid album by one of the few bands able to transition out of the Emo era. They have countinued to hit. They might not have Kings of Leon level clout, but the have one of the most loyal cult followings. Brand New could announce a country wide tour a week in advance and sell out immediately. Open up their catolouge and impress that gorgeous barista with the spaceman tattoo on her forearm.
I Got You,
